Appearance
The prince is a handsome blond man who wears a red and white tunic with gold lining over a black long-sleeved shirt and hose. He also dons a red cape with golden crosses embroided along the bottom. The theme of golden crosses is repeated in his white gloves and thigh-high boots. He possesses a jeweled sword that is sheathed to a belt around his waist.
Role
He appears in the song Bara no Tou de Nemuru Himegimi, a hundred years after Rose Princess falls asleep. On a so far fruitless mission for his ideal bride, he catches wind of a rumor:
| ~A white castle embraced by the hedge of wild roses The tower of roses desiring the sky, a beautiful princess sleeping within~ |
Bara no Tou de Nemuru Himegimi, 7th Story Märchen. Translation by Defade. |
Convinced that this is the woman he is searching for, the prince sets off for the castle. The forest mist and the hedge of thorns give way for him with little effort, and he climbs the tower to find the rumored princess. Upon kissing her, Rose Princess awakens along with the rest of the castle. The prince stands alongside his new bride when she exiles Alte-Rose, attempting to protect her from the curse but to no avail.
Live Portrayal
Yume Suzuki appears as the red prince in the live concerts, entering the stage after Märchen von Friedhof tells Rose Princess to wait for her Prince Charming. He cuts down the thorns, awakens the princess with a kiss, and leads her out of the tower where she orders Alte-Rose's exile. The prince attempts to shield Rose Princess' abdomen from the curse, but his efforts are in vain and the two are left holding each other close at the end of the song. As the abandonment of the child is not shown, it is never seen whether he plays a part in it.
He reappears occasionally in Gyoukou no Uta alongside Rose Princess.
Theories
Elys
| Ah, just hearing the legend of the princess of wild roses, I felt it was destiny She must be 《the Woman I’m Searching for》[my Elys] |
Bara no Tou de Nemuru Himegimi, 7th Story Märchen. Translation by Defade. |
Because of the possible mother-daughter connection between Rose Princess and Lafrenze (see The Abandoned Child), it is reasonable to assume that the prince is the father of Lafrenze. Furthermore, the prince can also be linked to his potential granddaughter El and her father Abyss with the mention of the search for an Elys, an idea repeated multiple times throughout Elysion.
Red Prince, Blue Prince
Owing to undeniable similarities in their physical appearance, portrayals, roles and voice provider, it has been theorized that the red prince is the same character as the blue prince. It must also be noted, however, that for all the parallelisms between the two, dissimilarities also exist, such as the red prince's lack of accompanying retainers and their differing reactions towards the revival of the princesses.
